Marcus Simms was arrested and booked early Sunday morning at the North Central Regional Jail for a misdemeanor.  According to another jurisprudence web site, the charges are for DUI and driving on a revoked license.

Without getting into the usual arguments trying to explain such irresponsible behavior or condemning it, Dana/Huggs/Mazey/Carey et al should establish this policy. If you have been drinking, call your mentor (fellow player or designated non-player if mentor is also drinking) and get a ride back home.

This avoids kids thinking they can drive under the influence and not wanting others to know what he or she has been doing. The stakes are simply too high and consequences too great to take the risk.

That’s a good idea. It seems like DUI, in whatever form, has been, despite all of the instances nationwide, been pushed into the “kids will be kids” category. I’m not in favor of destroying a perpetrator’s life over it, but as you note, the consequences can be deadly (and just as ruinous to the driver’s life as well).

And that applies to the influence of other drugs as well, as this case involves. It was for marijuana

It’s not just a kids  problem you  check the papers and it includes all age groups.

Evidently Marcus also admitted to the arresting officer that he had smoked pot prior to be pulled over.  Also, it apparently his 2nd DUI offense in 4 months.

As Kevin mentioned, you don’t want to ruin the kid’s life over it…but two DUIs plus the marijuana angle equals a troubling trend, not a one-off “kids will make mistakes” incident.

Perhaps a one year red shirt opportunity would be appropriate. A slap on the wrist may not work.

IMO – Minimum 3 game suspension, Mandatory enrollment in substance program, mandatory enrollment in safe driving class, and probation thru balance of season. Proviso that if won’t agree to any if this, or is caught being even in the area of where there is trouble he is gone – no questions asked.

Kid has a problem – Next man up!
