Matt has a very good point about not overloading Crawford, so WVU can keep him in tiptop shape all season.
Last year is a good example on how he can break down week to week. Justin had five 100-yard games last year, and none of those were in consecutive games. In fact, he never gained more than 42 yards in a game after a 100-yarder. The number of carries was a big part of that. Whenever he had 13 or more carries last year, he only followed that up with a 100-yard game once – Kansas (13 for 129), which came on the heals of Oklahoma State (13 for 80). Now this is a different year, and Justin seems to be in better shape. He has had with 13 for 106 vs. VT, 15 for 118 vs. ECU, 15 for 102 vs. DSU and 18 for 125 vs. KU. He doesn’t seem to be breaking down the week after a heavy work load like he did last year, but if I were the Mountaineers, I’d be very cautious about handing him the ball over 20 times a game and continuing to get consistent performances. With quality backs like Kennedy McKoy and Martell Pettaway capable of taking some of the load off of Crawford, it seems best not to wear Justin out by giving him too many carries.
