WVU Football Falls In COVID-19 Line; All Activity Suspended Until March 29

West Virginia’s scheduled football practice for Friday, March 13, has been cancelled, and the program will now follow the guidelines set forth by Director of Athletics Shane Lyons in shuttering its on-field athletic activities until March 29.

Today was the final day of practices scheduled before the University’s spring break, but it has been cancelled. Scheduled practices for March 24, 25, 26 and 28 have likewise been called off. There are no tentative plans beyond that, although regular reviews of the current COVID-19 pandemic and its effects will continue.

WVU had completed two of its allotted 15 spring practices on Tuesday and Thursday. No decision has yet been made about April practices of which six were scheduled, or the Gold/Blue spring game on April 18.

It will be tough to get the 13 remaining practices in before the Spring Game.  I doubt that NB would not use all of the practice time available.  Push back Spring Game??? Practice after Spring Game???

All those options will be considered, and it all, of course, depends on the state of the pandemic.

Call March 29 just a breathing room point in terms of decisions so far. If things get worse, then that is going to be extended. You can proably throw any of the other rules, other than those regarding player safety, out the window in terms of the way thing might go this spring.

I understand the Big 12 and SEC are working to find a way to play the baseall season, or some version of it, even if there is no NCAA championship. That’s all discussion and chatter between coaches at this point, but could a May and June schedule be put together? Maybe. Just one of many options, and spring football is another. Push it back a month and resume in May?
