Mountaineer officials announced that the home opener for the West Virginia University men’s basketball team against Youngstown State, slated for Wednesday, Dec. 2, has been postponed due to the Penguins pausing team activities related to COVID-19.
WVU is still scheduled to start its season with three games at the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic Nov. 25-27 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Northern Iowa is the first opponent for the Mountaineers in that tournament, as WVU will face off with the Panthers at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25. That game will be televised by ESPN, and all the Crossover Classic contests will be televised by ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
West Virginia’s home opener originally was going to be Dec. 2 against YSU, but now the Mountaineers’ first game in the WVU Coliseum will be Wednesday, Dec. 9 against Robert Morris. Prior to that the Mountaineers are scheduled to face Georgetown in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, Dec. 6.
West Virginia’s announcement on the postponement of its game with Youngstown State said the two schools are hoping to reschedule the game with a mutually agreeable date in December. More information will be released as it becomes available.
