    Recruiting.

Our recruiting classes are typically ranked in the mid to low 30’s. We generally get about two 4* players in most classes. That’s not good enough to field a team that can continually be ranked and STAY in the top 15. We get there at the beginning of they year and tend to fall off as the season goes on.

IMO it starts up front. We just don’t recruit the bigs on either side of the line. We get the marginal 3* kids that need 2 to 3 years of development to contribute. AND we just don’t recruit enough of them to give the younger kids time to develop.

Recruiting the highly recruited skill position players is far from adequate. We just don’t seem to be able to land the Fast, Athletic kids that can hit the ground running. Instead, we are relying on some walk ons to fill our 2 deep. That just isn’t how you build a program that ends the season in the top 15 most years than not.

Say what you want about star ratings. The perennial top programs recruit 4* and 5* players at multiple positions. There is a reason for that. That is one of the reasons that they are a top program. Ratings overall do count.

What walk-ons are filling the two-deep at skill positions?

Should have typed Skilled Position Players. Not to mean just skill positions. In any case, we just don’t have the talent across the board. Looks like only our WR’s and DL has the skill and depth that we need. Unfortunately our OL can’t give our WR’s enough time or occupy enough bodies to allow our WR’s to get free or not have to work thru double teams all the time. Our DL is talented and deep but can’t plug enough holes with a 3 man DL because our LB’s & S’s are weak.

I’m usually the one with rose colored glasses, but this team is going the wrong way and I just don’t see it getting any better.
