The game simply is not what it used to be. Nor what we would like it to be.
The Name, Image and Likeness rule allows two teammates to play side by side but one make thousands of dollars and the other get none. The Transfer Portal has made a commitment meaningless. Coaches leave at the drop of an expensive hat. Before bowl games.
I wanted very much for Leddie Brown to play in this bowl game. But he has voices in his ear and mine is not one of them.
The game is not what it used to be.
Leddie made the right decision for his future–no matter how disappointed fans might be. Leddie playing in a bowl game is mere entertainment for fans, but has potential to be a life changing decision for Leddie. Your entertainment as a fan does not supersede the athletic career of a player with free will to either play or not. Every down, players put their well being on the line… it’s calculated risk in a bottom tier bowl game; next man up. This is America, this is capitalism, this is right to self-determination.
This is pretty much a sample of what the team will be next year without Leddie Brown. It will be interesting to see a first glimpse of any changes in the offense that will evolve along with a chance for some of the younger players to get their feet wet! Maybe a sacrifice of a win playing without some of last year’s players, maybe not! Anxious to see!
