Destination South Florida: Mountaineers Everywhere Invited to Attend Next Month’s
The South Florida Mountaineers will be hosting its 3rd annual Golf Outing and Spa
Day at PGA National on Saturday, April 6.
The full-day event under Florida’s blue sunny skies is a gathering for West Virginia
alumni and friends, and includes the “Cheers Beers & Mountaineers Bash” at The
Snuggery following the day’s activities. The Snuggery is a Palm Beach Gardens eatery
owned by former WVU receiver Bernie Kirchner.
The golf tournament begins at 1:30 pm on PGA National’s Squire Course. The $180
per-person package includes cart and greens fees, the post-golf “Cheers Beers &
Mountaineers Bash,” and a coupon for a free future round of golf on any PGA National
course. Foursomes are $600.
Spa packages are $160 and includes an afternoon at the renowned PGA National Spa, as
well as the “Cheers Beers & Mountaineers Bash.”
The post-event “Bash” at the Snuggery (2576 PGA Blvd) begins at 6:00 pm and is being
offered for $35 for those who are unable to attend the golf and/or spa events. The
Snuggery spread includes an open bar featuring domestic drafts and well drinks, an
appetizer bar, and a choice of entrees, sides, and dessert.
Raffles and auctions highlighted by the latest WVU swag are also a part of the
Former WVU football All-American and longtime Buffalo Bill outside linebacker Darryl
Talley will be on hand to golf in the event.
The 2019 event will also continue to memorialize former South Florida native and
Mountaineer football player DannyVan Etten at the event’s18th hole. Van Etten was a
19-year-old freshman offensive lineman in 1997 when a car accident took his life
while returning to Morgantown from college break.
The official South Florida chapter of the West Virginia University Alumni
Association, the South Florida Mountaineers are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and dedicated
to keeping its members connected and engaged in the life of West Virginia University
while giving back through scholarship and service.
The organization includes graduates, parents, and friends of the West Virginia
University Mountaineers who reside in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
Football Game Watches are held each weekend during the fall in both Broward and Palm
Beach. The chapter also participated in a Habitat for Humanity restore project last
fall and recently attended a Penguins vs Florida Panther hockey game as a chapter.
In addition to funding chapter events, proceeds from the golf event go to the WVU
Medicine Children’s building fund, the WVU Alumni Association’s general scholarship
fund, and to a scholarship fund established to send future South Florida students to
