Two members of the No. 9-ranked West Virginia University women’s soccer team have been named to the 2018 Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, released on Thursday by the United Soccer Coaches.

Senior defender Bianca St. Georges and junior goalkeeper Rylee Foster landed on the list for the first time in their careers. At least one Mountaineer has been named to the award’s watch list in each of the last eight seasons, including 2016 Hermann Trophy recipient Kadeisha Buchanan.

The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in college soccer and is presented annually to the most outstanding male and female players of the year.

“This is an incredible honor,” WVU coach Nikki Izzo-Brown said. “Not only to have one of our athletes recognized, but to have two just speaks to all of the hard work and commitment that both of these young ladies have done to be selected for the most prestigious college soccer award.”

A total of 12 different Mountaineers have been named to the watch list a combined 17 times since 2003. WVU has had nine semifinalists, most recently Michaela Abam last season.

St. Georges, a native of St. Felix de Valois, Quebec, served as a captain for the Mountaineers last fall. She started all 23 matches, finishing seventh on the team with 10 points (2 G, 6 A).

An All-Big 12 First Team and CoSIDA Academic All-America First Team selection in 2017, St. Georges has recorded 13 career assists, tied for the most among Mountaineer returners. On Wednesday, she was named to the 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.

Foster is set to begin her third consecutive season as the Mountaineers’ starting goalkeeper. Last season, the Cambridge, Ontario, native logged the fifth-most minutes nationally (2,122:15) and earned credit for 12 of WVU’s 13 clean sheets, the most in the Big 12 and No. 8 in the country.

Foster made a single-season high 45 saves in 2017, earning United Soccer Coaches All-Region First Team honors. She finished with a 0.64 goals-against average, tops in the Big 12. A two-time All-Big 12 Second Team performer, Foster also was named to the 2018 Preseason All-Big 12 Team.

The MAC Hermann Trophy Watch Lists are compiled by members of the United Soccer Coaches Men’s and Women’s NCAA Division I All-America Committees. Fifteen semifinalists will be named for both the men’s and women’s MAC Hermann Trophy near the end of the college season based on voting by NCAA Division I coaches. From those candidates, three finalists will ultimately be placed on the ballot for the coveted award.

The winners will be announced in Jan. 4, 2019.
