The West Virginia University women’s basketball team has moved up one spot to No. 12 in the AP Poll released on Monday.
The Mountaineers were previously announced as No. 13 in the AP Preseason Poll and came in at No. 15 in the USA Today Sports Coaches Preseason Poll, released last week.
WVU earned 405 points and is one of four Big 12 teams to appear in the poll. No. 2 Texas (729), No. 3 Baylor (719) and No. 21 Oklahoma (165) appear in the rankings, while Kansas State and Oklahoma State received votes.
West Virginia (1-0) posted a 102-52 win over Central Connecticut State on Friday at the WVU Coliseum to open the 2017-18 season. Senior forward Teana Muldrow led the way with a career-high 30 points and 12 rebounds for her 11th career double-double. Junior guard Naomi Davenport had a team-high five steals to go with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while freshman guard Ashley Jones had nine assists with seven points and four steals. Both made their Gold and Blue debuts on Friday.
