Junior David Koenders of the West Virginia University rifle team earned two top-20 finishes at the 2019 Summer World University Games, in Napoli, Italy.
On July 6, Koenders, a native of Mossautal, Germany, finished 20th in the men’s 10m air rifle with a score of 620.1 (102.7, 102.5, 103.3, 103.0, 104.0, 104.6).
Two days later, Koenders partnered with Jana Erstfeld to represent Germany in the mixed team 10m air rifle competition. The pair placed 11th overall with a score of 620.9.
The Summer World University Games are an international university and cultural event held every two years in a different city. Drawing thousands of student-athletes, the Games are one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
