West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has unveiled the four races that will headline the rowing schedule for the fall 2018.
West Virginia starts the fall season with a varsity squad scrimmage on the Ohio River in Neville Township, Pennsylvania, when it takes on Duquesne and Robert Morris on Saturday, Oct. 13.
Following two weeks off from competition, the WVU varsity squad will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to compete in the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta. The race will take place on the Schuylkill River on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The Mountaineers’ novice squad travels to Fairfax Station, Virginia, to compete in the Head of the Occoquan Regatta, to be held at the Occoquan Reservoir, on Saturday, Nov. 3.
WVU caps the fall at home on the Monongahela River, where it will face Duquesne in a team scrimmage for both the varsity and novice squads on Friday, Nov. 9.
“Scrimmages have become a staple of our fall schedule because we find them very productive in terms of the amount and quality of competitive work that gets done,” said 11th year head coach Jimmy King. “There’s fun, however, in going to some of the larger fall regattas. So, this year, we’ll travel to Philadelphia for the Head of the Schuylkill, where we haven’t competed since 2013.”
