Sports is like life in that way. You never know what is coming next. Sports is highs, lows, and surprises. Just today Kansas State beat Oklahoma, a result few saw coming. Take the 2004-2005 WVU basketball team. I did not think they could beat Wake Forest, but they did. Couple of games later at halftime I did not think they could lose to Louisville, but they did.
Haven’t played Oklahoma for it reach Penn State futility. There were couple of times they had a chance to end the losing streak–1967 and 1968.October 14, 2019 at 6:10 pm in reply to: Shane Lyons Speaks: West Virginia In Its Eighth Season In The Big 12 Conference #101096
Streaming is the way of the future. With the Big 12 being an early entrant there will some glitches and complaints early but it should work out rather quickly.September 30, 2019 at 8:26 pm in reply to: Shane Lyons Speaks: Coaching Transition Came Fast And Furious #99874
Lyons seems to care about WVU and that is important. Some ADs see a job as stepping stone to a bigger job and don’t care about the school. The Brown hire was the best when made.September 27, 2019 at 6:52 pm in reply to: Poll: What Grade Would You Give The Mountaineer Football Team Through Its First Four Games? #99750
B on results They have done what they needed to do to win 3
C overall as they have not good winning except for the NC State game
Nice to see Huggs seem happy about his team. Hope he still is by mid-season. It is a young team without a lot of experience playing together.
Nice analysis of the sstats
Easiest path to Big 12 now is go to ESPN+ and type Big 12 now in the search box.September 14, 2019 at 9:26 pm in reply to: James Sees Practice Work Pay Off For WVU In Win Over N.C. State #98564
I have been impressed with James since the season started. He makes some mistakes but for a Redshirt freshman does a lot of good things. He is always looking for an extra yard.September 5, 2019 at 6:57 pm in reply to: Reuben Jones Brings High Character, High Motor To WVU #97442
Enjoy the stories about individual players, Seems like Brown got some good grad transfers,September 4, 2019 at 6:25 pm in reply to: The Film Room: West Virginia Mountaineers – James Madison Dukes #97367
Nice look at some of the plays. Watching live it hard to see everything going on. Overall James impressed me with his play.August 22, 2019 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Bruce Feldman Sees Short Term Battles, Long Term Success For WVU #96014
When you look at what they lost and the schedule a 6-6 record should be a success. There are probably only 3 or 4 games they would be favored to win going into the season. The strongest unit on the team is running backs but they can’t do much unless the offensive line opens holes.August 18, 2019 at 9:01 pm in reply to: Corner Experience Gap Big Challenge For WVU, Addae #95709
While their is no substitute for experience skill can compensate for errors in coverage. Also, some players learn faster than others. We won’t really know much until the games start.July 31, 2019 at 5:47 pm in reply to: West Virginia Football’s Biggest Strengths In 2019: No. 1 – Running Back #94707
Agree that running backs is strength but agree with other posters that best running backs can’t do much without an offensive line. They need a crease to slip through.July 30, 2019 at 6:24 pm in reply to: West Virginia Football’s Biggest Strengths In 2019: No. 2 – The McKivitz/Sills Combo #94669
No substitute for two excellent offensive linemen. Agree, they need to stay healthy.July 30, 2019 at 6:20 pm in reply to: Rehab, Restructuring And Focus On Winning For WVU’s Jordan McCabe #94668
Early last season I thought McCabe might be over-matched in division 1. He was not playing much and did not look good when he did play. As the season progressed he got better and better After Ahmad and Harris were booted off the team he took over and shined. Looking forward to seeing what he can do this season.July 21, 2019 at 9:16 pm in reply to: West Virginia Football’s Biggest Questions In 2019: No. 1 – Quarterbacks #94261
Nearly impossible to know how a QB will do until they play regularly for a few games. I know James Madison is a good team but they are not Oklahoma or Alabama or Clemson, so a good game by a QB against them will not be conclusive. Agree, you need good QB play to win most games, or at least a QB who does not make big mistakes. Regardless of how good your running game or defense is, there will come times that the QB has to make a play.
I think the high flying offenses have hurt the Big 12 in perception of how good the teams were. However, are the defenses geting better or the offenses declining? This season WVU will probably rely more on the running game than the passing game.
Never understood how Oklahoma could recruit such good offense and have such poor defense.
Congratulations to Long, hope he has success there.July 16, 2019 at 6:07 pm in reply to: West Virginia Football’s Biggest Questions In 2019: No. 3 – New Defensive Scheme #94069
I think they can learn the system. Les confident they have the players to run it effectively.
