Learning is key to being a good player in Huggins system. I remember him saying about Staten, “He is going to get on the same page as me or he is not going to play anymore.” That worked as Staten took it heart and became an excellent player. Carter seemed to be a learner from the start and he kept improving.November 24, 2018 at 9:23 pm in reply to: WVU’s Sills Will Play In Bowl Game; Discusses Crucial Penalties #75540
Watched the Simmons play several times and honestly thing it should not have been a penalty. While he carried to block past the sideline he was not doing anything to hurt the opponent or take him down.
Maybe this applies to many schools but WVU football Has a string of mysteries. Pitt 13-WVU 9 will always remain one. So will the 2012 team, after the 6-0 start they got blown out by Texas Tech and K State then embarrassed in the Pinstripe Bowl. I am not sure where the problems are. For example, are the players not good enough or is the way they they taught to play that is the problem. The 3-3-5 stack is not stopping the good offenses. One thing I do know is that, in his time at WVU, Holgorsen has not recruited and developed a good QB-no Smith, White, Marshall, or Harris. I also think about the Clemson game and two teams have done since it. Clemson has been in playoffs and WVU has not even been back to major bowl.November 22, 2018 at 8:09 pm in reply to: Training Room Top Focus For WVU Hoops As It Prepares For Valparaiso #75160
Not sure there an answer for keeping Bolden on the court. The way he plays leads to getting banged up but if he did not play that way he would be less effective.November 19, 2018 at 8:58 pm in reply to: Oscar Tshiebwe On Board In WVU Hoops Class of 2019 #74973
Seems pretty big to get a player who had an offer from Kentucky. Should be a great addition next season even if Konate stays for his senior season.November 19, 2018 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Win And Get In For WVU In Big 12 Championship Race #74972
So it is win and get in the championship game. Of course beating Oklahoma would mean no Big 12 team in the playoffs but win Friday then win the championship game and WVU goes to the Sugar Bowl so a lot to play for.November 18, 2018 at 5:28 pm in reply to: WVU’s Final Drive At Oklahoma State Comes Up Empty #74866
With two timeouts left the play to call one after Grier’s run. Still one TO left and you do not need one to bring the FG team out because you are down 4. We will never know what would have happened with 2 more plays But 3 plays from the 14 gives you better odds than 1 play.November 16, 2018 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Bolden’s Contributions Don’t Show In Stats of WVU Win Over Monmouth #74607
The poor passing really stands out to me. Pass better and you get better shots Better shots lead to more made shots and that lets the defense set up.
Passing was a major problem in the Buffalo game. Need a another guard or two to come on quickly.November 4, 2018 at 10:16 am in reply to: Huggins Not Pleased With How WVU’s Pieces Fit Together against Penn State #73506
It will take time for thye team to meld, we just have to hope they do meld.October 18, 2018 at 1:43 pm in reply to: Good, Bad & Ugly – WVU Midseason Offensive Analysis #72220
2nd half problems may be due to adjustments the opponent makes or just the offense coasting. Iowa State seems more a lack of adjustment by WVU.October 15, 2018 at 7:57 pm in reply to: Multiple Issues To Address For Holgorsen, WVU In Off Week #72036
Think lack of scoring more an offense problem that better defenses, Ok State scored 42 on Iowa State the week before Iowa State shut down the WVU offense. Iowa State had plan to disrupt WVU and WVU never adjusted, as evidenced by all the sacks.October 14, 2018 at 9:01 pm in reply to: Heisman Hopes, Offense Collapse In WVU Loss to Iowa State #71953
Instead of a bad half they played a bad game. Oklahoma State scored 42 on Iowa State last weekend and they are not a great offense. It is almost impossible for a defense to pressure a QB, syop the running game, and blanket all the receivers, yet that what they did.October 9, 2018 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Beetle Bolden Adds Size, Experience And Leadership For WVU #71540
Good for Beetle, step one is always to take things seriously and put the work in to succeed. Great opening lines in the story too!
This will be a test but you need to handle good offenses if want to go the Big 12 championship game and beyond.September 25, 2018 at 5:39 pm in reply to: WVU Men’s Basketball Team To Host Charity Exhibition Game #70184
Good test in game that does not count on the record.September 22, 2018 at 9:01 pm in reply to: WVU Overcomes Miscues To Score Easy Win Against K-State #69846
K State looked overmatched. Make that many mistakes against more equal teams and you be in trouble. OK State mistakes have them down 7 to Texas Tech at the half.September 2, 2018 at 6:32 pm in reply to: Defense Steals the Show In WVU Opening Win Over Tennessee #68243
The defense made some big plays but I’m not convinced. Tennessee had 100 yard rusher and some big runs. They converted 3rd and long two or 3 times. They also did not look like a very good offense, particularly in the red zone. If they can hold Oklahoma and Oklahoma State under 30 I will be impressed.
I was on the field after a game last season and it is a wonderful place to be part of Country Roads. Have my video of the experience.
Offense looked good in the 2nd half. Defense held Tennessee to 14 but I not sold on them as Tennessee did not look like top offense.
