Teams have gone opposite directions since then. Clemson now has a national title and has been in contention several seasons . WVU has not been in a top level bowl since that game.
One of the greatest runs in WVU history. At least 4 Miami players had a shot at him and the final one just got run over. I’m sure many of us watching thought that was a game winner but Miami had other ideas.
Memorable moments do bring back memories. I was teaching at Univ. of Georgia then and watched the game on TV. Exciting win and unexpected.August 15, 2018 at 8:26 pm in reply to: WVU’s Yodny Cajuste Last In Line Of Cogdell Recruits #66991
Nice story, if the last he is good one. Who knows, Cogdell may return to WVU someday and bring in more recruits.August 13, 2018 at 2:47 pm in reply to: Knapper Cleared To Fully Participate In WVU’s Basketball Activities #66857

It is supposed to be a team and a team does need unity. Nothing showed there was a big problem last season but seems some recognized things were not as good as they wanted.July 14, 2018 at 8:47 pm in reply to: Special Teams Remain Out Of View In Preseason Run-Up #61554
My conclusion is that the team was good on kickoffs and very bad on punts. One big difference between the two is that kickoff returners usually have 10 to 20 yards of free running while punt returners usually have opposing players close to them. Good punt returners need to b fearless. They need to be chess players several moves ahead. It is split second decision whether to catch the ball and run or make a free catch. Watching WVU punt returners it looks they think fair catch first and too early.July 7, 2018 at 8:29 pm in reply to: Workouts With WVU Alums Beneficial In More Ways Than One #61305
Nice take on the situation. Always good to see former players who see WVU as home.June 30, 2018 at 4:10 pm in reply to: Hertzel’s Notebook – Holgorsen Against The Odds, Howard Keeps Winning #61108
Although anyone can win a bet, if it was easy the places that take bets could not stay in business. The odds are always against the bettor.June 30, 2018 at 4:06 pm in reply to: Potential For Flexible WVU Hoops Lineups A Plus, Will Take Time To Develop #61107

Nice moves around the basket.
I remember thinking when he transfered they had a solid bench player but once I saw him play I knew he was talented. He did exceed expectations.May 31, 2018 at 7:19 pm in reply to: Mountaineers Venturing In To Uncharted Football Scheduling Territory #60108
It is ambitious but may be foolhardy. Have to be ready to play week after week.May 31, 2018 at 7:13 pm in reply to: Martin: WVU Basketball Seemingly Features Plenty Of Depth, Talent #60107
With so many new players it might take the team a while to meld together but if they do that the could be great by tournament time.
Good to see Huggs saying what I saw.I wasat the Big 12 tournament and the fatigue was clear in the championship game against Kansas. Miles and Carter were lighting things up the first 30 to 35 minutes then couldn’t hit anything down the stretch. I know defense can cause that but they were missing open shots. When that happens only two things I know of are fatigue or getting caught up in the moment. As seniors very doubtful Carter and Miles got caught up in the moment. Same thing in Villanova game–game was 60-60 just under 10 minutes WVU then made only 4 field goals the last 10 minutes.
Expected but good now committed.May 10, 2018 at 4:11 pm in reply to: Poll: Recent Attrition Hurts Which Sport More? Football Or Basketball #59163
Football even if Sags leaves. You a lot more quality players in football than in basketball.
Team seems to be playing itys best ball down the stretch. Keep rolling and they should make the tournament
WVU sports info dept has heard nothing on Allen transferring and if talk was out they would have heard something.April 18, 2018 at 9:59 pm in reply to: Blue & Gold Classic Game Of The Week: 2005 NCAA Tournament, West Virginia vs. Wake Forest #57996
