Following her game-winning goal on Oct. 23, at Oklahoma, junior forward Alina Stahl of the West Virginia University women’s soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Stahl helped the Mountaineers to a 1-0 win over the Sooners when she found the back of the net in the 20th minute last Friday night at John Crain Field in Norman, Oklahoma. The tally marked her third goal of the season and first game-winner of 2020. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, native has scored goals in back-to-back contests and leads the squad with 13 career goals. The win marked WVU’s fourth in a row.
Stahl is tied for No. 2 in the Big 12 in goals (3) and sits No. 3 in the conference with seven total points.
This Week in Women’s Soccer: West Virginia returns to Morgantown for its final home match of the fall against Kansas on Friday, Oct. 30, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium … kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET … the contest is a Pink Match in support of breast cancer awareness month.

Last Week in Cross Country: West Virginia was off last week … the Mountaineers last competed at the Youthtowne cross country course, hosted by Pitt in Clinton, Pennsylvania, on Oct. 16 … WVU captured first place in its first meet of the season … redshirt sophomore Katherine Dowie was the first Mountaineer to cross the finish line in a 5k time of 17:58.1 … fellow junior Charlotte Wood, redshirt senior Antigone Archer and sophomore Mikenna Vanderheyden also placed inside the top five, collecting second (18:09.2), fourth (18:37.4) and fifth (18:45.0), respectively … redshirt sophomore Hannah Lipps finished in sixth with a time of 18:58.1, closely followed by senior Hayley Jackson in eighth (19:12.3) … redshirt junior Marianne Abdalah finished in ninth with a time of 19:20.04 and freshman Petal Palmer registered a time of 19:25.0 to finish in 10th place … redshirt sophomore Samantha Hatcher and freshman Megan Weaver also competed for the Mountaineers and came in 14th (19:48:2) and 20th (20:37:4), respectively.

Last Week in Tennis: Members of the West Virginia University tennis team competed in the 2020 Fall Circuit from Oct. 23-25, at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown … freshman Momoko Nagato led the way for the Mountaineers, posting three wins and making an appearance in the tournament final of the women’s main draw … Nagato finished second after falling in two sets to Taylor Ng, 2-6, 6-7 (4-7) … senior Anne-Sophie Courteau and freshman Amber Fuller also competed in last weekend’s event and picked up two wins apiece to make it to the quarterfinals.
Notes: Nagato’s three singles wins led the team this fall, while Courteau and Fuller tied for second on the team in wins, with two … overall, Courteau still holds the most career victories for WVU with 88 … fellow senior Giovanna Caputo leads the team with 45 career singles wins … Courteau also leads the team in career doubles wins, with 44.
