Big 12 Football Notes and Picks: 2020 Week Eleven

Big 12 Mascots

The four teams in action last week get their final scheduled open date of 2020, while four of the six squads that did not play will square off on Saturday. Bedlam is the highlight, with Oklahoma State trying to hold a spot in the Big 12 Championship game against a team it has only defeated 18 times in 114 tries.

Texas-Kansas has been postponed due to “game interruption guidelines” according to the league and has been rescheduled for Dec. 12.

That’s Oklahoma leading the league in rushing defense and sacks. Oklahoma State leads the Power 5  in third down conversion percentage defense, allowing a success rate of just 23.3% (21-of-90). Could Bedlam, rather than resulting in its normal shootout, be decided on that side of the ball?

Baylor leads the league in turnover margin, standing at +6 on the season. The Bears haven’t been able to turn that advantage into wins, though, as they are 1-5 in 2020.

Iowa State’s Mike Rose is tied for the league lead in interceptions with three, but is not in the conference’s Top 20 in passes defended (interceptions plus pass breakups). It’s been either feast or famine for Rose, who has just one PBU to go along with his three picks.

THE PICKS

Kansas State (4-3 / 4-2) at Iowa State (5-2 / 5-1)
Sat Nov 21     4:00 PM      FOX

The Wildcats have to win this game to stay in the race for the Big 12 Championship, while the Cyclones need it to keep their grip on the top spot for now. Farmageddon is one of the best sobriquets for a college football game (it beats the heck out of “CyHawk” for the ISU-Iowa contest) and that presages a great game here.

This one comes down to quarterback play, and ISU’s Brock Purdy gets the nod as the Cyclones defend the home turf.

Oklahoma State (5-1 / 4-1) at Oklahoma (5-2 / 4-2)
Sat Nov 21    7:30 PM      ABC

OU’s offense is humming, and its defense, at least statistically, is improved. OSU’s defense is outstanding, but it has struggled a bit on offense. Add in the home field and … nope, the upset is the pick here. The Cowboys put together their best performance of the season and set themselves up for a run at the league title.
