West Virginia alumni Mike Brown, TJ Simmons and Kyle Poland are among the Mountaineers who have signed or are pursuing free agent deals with NFL teams after the league’s three-day draft extravaganza wrapped up on Saturday.
Brown was quickly snapped up by the New Orleans Saints, who were among the teams in contact with his agent as the draft concluded.

“I’m not going to lie to you, I wanted to get drafted,” Brown said shortly after the selection process ended. “But may agent was great, and I’ve been learning a lot of things from him. One of them was ‘It’s not a bad thing to be a free agent.’ There are a lot of players who are free agents who make it, and I’m going to do everything I can to be one of them.”
Brown noted that he let his representatives at Logan Brown Sports handle all of the talks with teams who were interested in his services, and that the process didn’t take long.
“I had walked in to see my daughter right after the draft ended, and that’s when the phone call came,” said Brown, who had been part of a small family gathering on Saturday. “She’s everything to me, and right then I got the call. It just made me remember that I’m doing everything for her.”
Brown will report to his first mini-camp with the Saints in a couple of weeks, and is keeping his perpetually positive attitude in place.
“My family was loud,” he laughed when sharing the reaction they had upon receiving news of his signing. “They awere all very excited for me.”

In addition to Darius Stills, who was also quickly snapped up the the Las Vegas Raiders in the post-draft flurry of activity, long snapper Kyle Poland has heard from several teams and is working on a deal, but had not signed with anyone as of late Saturday night.
“I do have some things in the works,” said Poland, who has worked since the end of the Mountaineers’ season to improve the flight time on his snaps while also earning his master’s degree. It’s expected he will be in an NFL camp later this month.
