No West Virginia football player has ever won the Heisman Trophy, though six Mountaineers have placed in the top 10 in the Heisman voting. Quarterback Jeff Hostetler was seventh in 1983. Quarterback Major Harris was fifth in 1988 and third in 1989. Running back Amos Zereoue was 10th in 1997, and running back Steve Slaton was fourth in 2006. Quarterback Pat White twice finished in the top 10, placing sixth in 2007 and seventh in 2008. And the most recent Mountaineer who was in the top 10 in the Heisman voting was receiver/running back Tavon Austin, who was eighth in 2012.

Finally we have a marketing program to promote Grier. We haven’t done that in the past. That was a miss with Pat White. Promoting a player for the Heisman isn’t just about the player. It’s a great avenue to promote the program and the university.
