Hazel Makes It Three On Big Day For WVU
It’s rare, although not uncommon, for two players to commit to West Virginia on the same day. Three? That’s a banner event.
That’s just what unfolded on Saturday afternoon, though, when the Mountaineers got a commitment from Isaiah Hazel, a standout wide receiver who is the top-rated pass-catcher in the state of Maryland. He joined Kerry Martin and La’Darius Henry, who both announced earlier in the day.

An explosive outside receiver who gets off the line quickly but can also work the field, Hazel committed to the Mountaineers as their final camp weekend of the season wound down. Hazel is WVU’s first 2019 verbal from the state of Maryland. A former running back, Hazel has only been playing the position since the start of high school, which indicates that he still has the potential for a great improvement arc.
The physical wideout chose WVU over six other finalists, including Tennessee, Maryland, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Ole Miss and Alabama.
Hazel’s verbal gives WVU three wide receivers out of its 11 commitments in the class. He joins DeShon Stoudemire and Winston Wright in what has the makings of a very exciting group of pass catchers. After entering the month of July with only five commitments, the Mountaineers have now more than doubled their total by racking up six in the last four weeks.
