Konate Sidelined For WVU’s Game Saturday; Culver Available
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (December 22, 2018) – West Virginia University junior forward Sagaba Konate will miss Saturday’s game against Jacksonville State due to a right knee injury.
Konate is at the Coliseum for the JSU game, but he is on crutches with his knee in a brace.
This will be the third game this season that Konate has missed, and the second straight, as he also sat out last weekend’s loss to Rhode Island.
When he is on the court, Konate is WVU’s second leading scorer, averaging 13.6 points a game, which trails only Esa Ahmad’s 14.8 per game. Konate leads WVU in rebounds (8.0 per game), as well as blocks (22 total).
While Konate will not be in action today, freshman forward Derek Culver is available for the first time this season. Culver was suspended by WVU head coach Bob Huggins shortly before the start of the season, reportedly for misdeeds that included missing class and being late to practice. He has not played or even been on the bench for any of West Virginia’s first 10 games, but Huggins re-instated him to the squad early this week, and he’ll be available for action this afternoon.
