Mountaineers Have Few Problems With Austin Peay
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia had some early struggles, but righted itself after a few minutes and ultimately ran away for a 84-53 victory over Austin Peay Thursday night at the WVU Coliseum.
The win improved the Mountaineers’ record to 8-1, while the visiting Governors fell to 4-5.
WVU got contributions from everyone. Sophomore forward Emmitt Matthews led the offensive attack with 16 points,. He also had 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. Freshman center Oscar Tshiebwe had the fourth double-double of his young career, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. In all, 12 of the 13 Mountaineers who played Thursday found their way into the scoring column.
West Virginia will be back in action Saturday afternoon when it hosts Nicholls (6-4) at 2 p.m.
