Mountaineers Outlast Akron In Men’s Basketball Opener
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–The Mountaineers took a lead midway in the first half and never trailed again in topping Akron, 94-84, in the 2019-20 season opener at the WVU Coliseum Friday night.
West Virginia’s largest advantage was 17, and it was in front of the Zips 47-33 at halftime. But the visitors kept battling in the second half to stay relatively close. Akron closed to with six, 56-50, at the 15:45 mark of the second half, but the Mountaineers kept just enough distance between themselves and the Zips to record the win. WVU is now 111-10 all-time in home season openers.
