Mazey’s Stressful Day To Continue
By: Kevin Kinder
West Virginia head coach Randy Mazey joked with media members in attendance at his brief post session following the team’s 8-5 win over Maryland on Sunday afternoon.
“You don’t mind if I take a drink, do you?” he said, referring to the water bottle in front of him.
He could have been forgiven if it was something stronger, though, as West Virginia struggled mightily through the first five innings, producing just one run on two hits while falling behind 4-0.
“I don’t know what you guys do, but man my job is stressful,” Mazey added. “It’s kind of like for you guys having an 11:00 p.m deadline and starting to write at 10:45.”
In the web world, there are no hard deadlines, but on the minus side for us there’s no getting out of work after the deadline passes. we understand, though, the gist of Mazey’s message. West Virginia pushed it about as far as it could go against the Terps, but came alive just in time to secure the victory.
WVU is now in the process of waiting out a weather system in the Winston-Salem area. Showers were falling at 4:30 p.m., and lightning in the area could delay matters longer. Indoor batting cages will allow both teams to warm up in that facet of the game while the rain continues, but infield practice for Wake Forest if desired, and warm-up time for starting pitchers could push the start time much later than the schedule 5:04 first pitch timetable.
