Mountaineers Dominate TCU
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 12 Mountaineers improved to 14-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in the Big 12 with an 81-49 wipeout of TCU Tuesday night at the WVU Coliseum.
The first half was all West Virginia, as the Mountaineers ran out to a 37-23 lead at the end of the period. A 14-0 WVU run midway through the half broke things open, and it was a different assortment of Mountaineers who did much of the damage. Freshman sensation Oscar Tshiebwe had no points, no rebounds and three turnovers in his seven minutes of action, but teammates Sean McNeil (eight points with two treys), Chase Harler (seven points) and Brandon Knapper (five points) picked up the slack. WVU made 58.3 percent of its shots (14 of 24), while limiting the Horned Frogs to 35 percent (7 of 20).
TCU seemed to have a little spark at the outset of the second half, hitting a pair of threes in succession to cut the Mountaineer lead down to eight. But the home club dominated from there, as it pounded the ball inside and hit shots from the outside.
West Virginia is on the road for its next game, as it is at Kansas State (7-9/0-4) Saturday afternoon (2 p.m. on ESPNU).
