Crawford Inks with Atlanta, Other Undrafted Mountaineers Sign Free Agent Contracts

BREAKING NEWS: West Virginia running back Justin Crawford has signed a free agent contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Besides Kyzir White, who was drafted in the fourth round by San Diego, Crawford is the seventh Mountaineer to sign a contract as an undrafted free agent since the end of the NFL draft on Saturday.

Kyzir White was the only Mountaineer picked in the 2018 NFL Draft, as the senior safety was selected in the fourth round by the Los Angeles Chargers. It’s the first time since 2010 that West Virginia hasn’t had multiple players picked in the annual draft.

Shortly after the NFL draft concluded on Saturday evening, other Mountaineers started signing free agent contracts.

Receiver Ka’Raun White, the brother of Kyzir, quickly was picked up by Seattle. The Seahawks didn’t draft a receiver this year, as they already have seven on their active roster. White was one of three undrafted free agent receivers signed by Seattle Saturday night, along with Taj Williams of TCU and Caleb Scott of Vanderbilt.

Linebacker Al-Rasheed Benton signed with Detroit. The Lions currently have eight linebackers on their roster. They didn’t draft any linebackers, and Benton is the only one at that position to currently sign as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Fullback Elijah Wellman signed with Washington. Washington currently only has one fullback on its roster. It didn’t draft one and Wellman is the only free agent to currently sign.

Offensive lineman Kyle Bosch was inked by Carolina. The Panthers did not draft an offensive lineman this year, and Bosch is one of two offensive line undrafted free agent pickups, along with Penn State’s Brendan Mahon.

Also cornerback Elijah Battle signed with Arizona. The Cardinals have nine corners on their roster, including draftee Chris Campbell of Penn State.

Long snapper Nick Meadows, who had an outstanding, if unsung, career in that position at WVU, received a mini-camp invite from the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts have Luke Rhodes, a two-year veteran, on the roster.

Other Mountaineers figure to sign over the coming hours and days. Running back Justin Crawford, and cornerback Mike Daniels are the most likely to get NFL chances. Check back with to keep track of other free agent signings.
