Joel Klatt’s Thoughts On WVU’s 2018 Football Prospects

“Dana Holgorsen’s done a really solid job. Not many people give him the credit he probably deserves, but he deserves a lot for what he has done at West Virginia.

“Will Grier could put up Mason Rudolph-style numbers. It’s the same offense remember, because Holgorsen comes from that Oklahoma State, Mike Gundy type of tree, Mike Leach type of tree. They’ve got great wide receivers at West Virginia. They might be, as far as the tandem goes, the two best in the country – David Sills and Gary Jennings.

“I think it’s really easy to get West Virginia to 8-0 … If they beat Tennessee and North Carolina State, they will likely go to Austin, Texas, November 3rd, 8-0. They’ll probably be in the top five in the country, and Will Grier will be the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy at that point. And then, it’s the gauntlet.”

WV has become the hot pick for dark horse contender this year. I’m unconvinced, but hope the national media is right and I am wrong.

They definitely play follow the leader on some of this stuff. We, being local, can see the potential problems more readily, but that just makes you a smart and well-informed fan.

We do try not to go overboard either way, but there are several things that have to happen for the defense to be competitive. No LB or CB injuries, and 3-4 CBs must become dependable players, not just show flashes.

I do think WVU is OK on the DL and at S.

Just rewatched most of the Ok State game from last season… man we were destroyed for all but about 30 seconds of that game.

    Have we improved that much?
