WVU Adds Donavan Beaver To 2019 Commitment List

West Virginia received the first offensive line verbal commitment for its Class of 2019 on Sunday when Donavan Beaver of Massaponax High School in Spotslyvania, Va., announced his choice after a visit to the WVU campus.

With offers from a number of ACC schools, including Virginia, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, N.C. State, Pitt, Syracuse and Louisville, as well as others including Florida, Pitt, UCF, Vanderbilt and Maryland, Beaver appeared to be a tough get for the Mountaineers. However, he spurned apparent front runner Virginia Tech to become the sixth member of West Virginia’s football class of 2019.

Beaver is listed at either 6-6 or 6-7, but either way has the height and wingspan to play outside. He lined up mostly at guard during his junior season at Massaponax, but shows good footspeed and placement on several pulling plays.

Really like Beaver’s progression – has worked had and added offers consistently, and if he had played out the process longer I think he would have gotten even more big school offers. A really nice commitment, and while it won’t get much buzz because he’s a lineman, it’s a notable one.

I like this pick up. Only a 3* at this time but has the size, wing span and feet to be a real player.

IMO we need at least 4 more OL in this class. We’ve done well lately with some JUCO’s to back fill the spots. We are starting to get to the numbers needed. Counting the incoming class we are up to 14 OL. Another couple good recruiting classes will make it a full squad. Most P5 schools are in the 17+ range in number of OL Schollie players.

Losing the top 2 OL in the state (Wright and Nester) this year hurts. Both look like they may go to tOSU. These are the #1 and #10 OL in the country. Both have been recruited and offered long ago. Any chance of flipping either of these two?

Hopefully we will land Nesters team mate, Zach Williamson. He has great size and almost top 100 position rating. Another WV kid with OL offers out there is Malone from Morgantown. Add those two (or equivalent) and a couple JC’s will bee sweet. It’s all about the beef up front. That’s where it starts.

I think it will be very tough to flip either of them.

Butlereer. It’s all about the beef on DL and OL.

Our numbers have been woefully thin on both sides for years.  We haven’t had an OL squad full of 5th year SR’s since the Dandy Don days.  RR hardly ever recruited DL specific kids and deleted the OL numbers to move them to the other side.  Bill saved his schollies for deserving walk ons.  After how many years now Dana is finally getting the numbers where they should be.
