WVU Basketball Adds 2019 Preferred Walk-on Commitment
West Virginia has received a commitment from a Kentucky guard who will join point guard Miles McBride and forward Oscar Tshiebwe in the Class of 2019.
Spencer Macke is a 6-2 SG from Silver Grove High School, a small school in Kentucky which sits on the Ohio River just south of Cincinnati.
I’m beyond excited and honored to announce that I am committing to @WestVirginiaU Thank you to my teammates and coaches for helping me achieve my lifelong goal. Thank you @CoachHuggs for the opportunity! I can’t wait to get to started @WVUhoops #hailWVU pic.twitter.com/9WQu4yLtro

“I am committed as a preferred walk-on. I played in the Adidas Gauntlet (last year) and we were playing in Indianapolis and Oscar was playing on the court next to us,” Macke said. “After (Oscar’s) game, Coach Huggins came over and watched the end of our game. He has also seen me play a few other times (since then), but Indy was the first. He offered me a preferred walk-on spot during the summer.”
Macke, who recently exploded for 44 points and 27 rebounds in a game a few weeks ago, said he’s averaging about 31 points and 14 rebounds per game thus far this season.
He is also familiar with at least one player on the team.
“James Bolden actually grew up 10 minutes away from me. I am extremely excited about West Virginia and to play alongside the best players in the country!”
