WVU Eighth In 2019 Big 12 Football Preseason Picks
To the surprise of no one, Oklahoma is the favorite to capture the 2019 Big 12 football championship. The Sooners were the overwhelming selection of mdeia members who regularly cover the league, earning 68 of the 77 votes cast for first place. Oklahoma was chosen to finish at the top of the standings for the fourth consecutive year. This year marks the seventh since 2011 in which the Sooners led the preseason rankings. They have captured a Big 12-record 12 league titles, including the last four.
West Virginia, one of four teams with new head coaches entering the 2019 campaign, was picked eighth. That quartet of teams were slotted in the last four places in the league, with Texas Tech (Matt Wells) seventh, WVU (Neal Brown) eighth, Kansas State (Chris Klieman) ninth and Kansas (Les Miles) tenth.

Voters believe that Texas is back, as the Longhorns placed second in the voting ahead of Iowa State, which was third. The Longhorns were the only other team to capture first place votes, earning nine.
TCU, hoping to rebound from a cataclysmic rash of injuries in 2018, was fourth in the voting, followed by Oklahoma State in fifth and Baylor sixth.
Big 12 Media Days are scheduled for next Monday, July 15 and Tuesday, July 15, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
