WVU Finishes Fourth in Big 12; Championship Bracket Set
By: Kevin Kinder
With its loss to Texas on Sunday, West Virginia has completed the Big 12 baseball regular season schedule, and finalized the Big 12 Championship, which begins on Wed., May 22nd in Oklahoma City.
The Mountaineers, as the the number four seed, will face Baylor, which earned the fifth seed. The Mountaineers and Bears each completed the league season with a 12-12 record, but WVU earned the tiebreaker due to its series victory earlier in the season. That win ended up being somewhat moot, though, as the two teams would have simply flipped finishing spots while still facing each other in the first round round on Wednesday. WVU faces Baylor at 10:00 a.m. ET in the opening game of the tournament.
Texas Tech will play Oklahoma State, TCU will see Texas and Oklahoma gets Kansas in the other first round games.
Kansas State, at 8-16, finished ninth in the league and did not make the Big 12 Championship.
