West Virginia’s mens basketball team moved up three spots to 10th place in today’s AP men’s basketball poll. The Mountaineeers totaled 1,014 points in the polling.

Baylor remained at No. 2, while Oklahoma moved up two spots to seventh. WVU’s win over Texas dropped the Longhorns two spots to 14th, while Kansas made a six-position leap to No. 17, just ahead of 18th place Texas Tech.

WVU is currently 15th in the NCAA Evaluation Tool (NET), behind No. 2 Baylor and No. 14 Texas Tech. Texas is 16th, while Oklahoma is 19th and Texas 23rd.

WVU continued to make its presence felt in league player of the week honors, placing on that list for the third consecutive week. Deuce McBride is on the list for the second time in three weeks, this time sharing a spot with Oklahoma State’s Cade Cunningham after Sean McNeil did the same with Oklahoma’s Austin Reaves a week prior.

McBride scored 17 points to go with four assists and three rebounds in WVU’s win at No. 12 Texas. He helped key the Mountaineers’ 19-point second half comeback as they extended their road winning streak to five games. The sophomore guard shot 41.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from 3-point range. He ranks in seven different statistical categories in the Big 12.

Including Derek Culver, who took home honors the first week of the season, WVU has four awards this year — more than any other league team.
