West Virginia returner Winston Wrigth (1) speeds ahead of the field for a touchdown on the opening kickoff

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia’s first home football game of the 2021 season went as planned. The Mountaineers scored early and often on Long Island en route to 66-0 victory.

West Virginia returner Winston Wright finds open ground on his 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the LIU game

With the win, WVU improved to 1-1 on the young campaign, while LIU fell to 0-2.

West Virginia got on the scoreboard the first time it touched the ball, as Winston Wright took the opening kickoff 90 yards for a score. That 7-0 lead would only grow, as WVU posted touchdowns on its next four offensive drives, and closed the first half with a quick sprint down the field that led to a 44-yard Casey Legg field goal. That gave the Mountaineers a 38-0 lead at the midway point, and they didn’t look back from there. Head coach Neal Brown played nearly every Mountaineer in uniform.

WVU will back at home next Saturday when it hosts 2-0 Virginia Tech. Game time for that one is slated for noon, and it will be broadcast on FS1.

Greg nice to see the win but there was never really a challenge. Gave some guys great playing time. Glad for the win but there is still a tremendous amount to prove

My hope is the experience helped the OL.
I realize the number of OL men playing led to their poor performance in that area.

I can’t remember for certain how many OL played, but think that it was 15 plus the starters. I may have wrong numbers there, but whatever the numbers, many linemen got game action yesterday.

I think that the number of OL playing next Saturday will drop to around eight. That will help the running game. My hope those players can open holes for the Mountaineer run game.

The starters couldn’t get any push.  Concerning

I mentioned this elsewhere,  but I don’t think the rotation or young players are to blame.  Our starters got beat.   Our run blocking is a concern
