WVU Pulls Away to Score Win Over Lehigh
MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–West Virginia’s men’s basketball team used a push in the last 10 minutes to pull away for a 78-68 victory over Lehigh at the WVU Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
The win lifted the Mountaineers’ record to 8-4 on the season as they now get ready for Big 12 Conference play. WVU hosts Texas Tech on Wednesday in its first league game of the 2018-19 season.
Lehigh fell to 7-5 with the loss. The Mountain Hawks’ losses have been to Miami, Fla. (83-62), Kansas State (77-58) and Yale (97-87).
Freshman point guard Jordan McCabe got the first start of his college career, and freshman center Derek Culver, playing in just his second college game, recorded his first double-double as a Mountaineer.
WVU head coach Bob Huggins highlighted Culver’s slowing down as a key to his success in the post, and noted that his team’s propensity to dribble continues to be a battle to correct.
