WVU-Rhode Island Confirmed For Hoops Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase
The West Virginia men’s basketball schedule for 2018-19 continues to slowly build with the confirmation of a match-up with Rhode Island as part of the Mountaineers’ non-conference schedule.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the matchups for the annual Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase presented by Citi on Sunday, December 16 at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. The tripleheader will feature the University of Rhode Island (Atlantic 10) versus West Virginia University (Big 12), the University of Tulsa (American Athletic) versus the University of Dayton (Atlantic 10) and Drexel University (Colonial Athletic) versus Quinnipiac University (Metro Atlantic).
“The Basketball Hall of Fame is pleased to return to Mohegan Sun for the Holiday Showcase presented by our newest partner, Citi,” said John L. Doleva, President and CEO of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. “The six teams participating, and their fans, are sure to have a memorable day of basketball in a beautiful venue this holiday season.”
General public tickets will go on sale Friday, September 7 at 10:00 a.m. ET via all Ticketmaster outlets and the Mohegan Sun Arena box office. Game time, television details and an exclusive Citi-pass pre-sale opportunity will be released at later date.
“We are certainly looking forward to participating in the Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase against Rhode Island. Anytime you have the opportunity to play in a special non-conference event you jump on it,” WVU head coach Bob Huggins said in a prepared statement. “Rhode Island has had a lot of success recently, and I’m sure our fans recall our history with them dating back to the Atlantic 10 days. We’re happy to be a part of this event and for the continued exposure for our basketball program.”
“The Basketball Hall of Fame Holiday Showcase is one of the premiere events in college basketball and we are honored to take part,” URI head coach David Cox said. “The opportunity to face a Top 25 program like West Virginia – and a Hall of Fame-nominated coach in Bob Huggins – is one we relish. It will only help us be better prepared for conference play.”
