WVU Rifle Team Members Compete At USA Shooting National Championships
Members of the West Virginia University rifle team aren’t getting much time off this summer.
Four Mountaineers are currently competing at the USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol, which is being held now through June 16 at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Ga.
National titles will be awarded throughout the week, and athletes are competing for potential roster positions for the National/National Junior Teams.
All four Mountaineers open competition today. On the women’s side, rising senior Ginny Thrasher, junior Morgan Phillips and sophomore Sarah Osborn are competing in the 10-meter air rifle, while senior Will Anti competes in the men’s 50-meter rifle three-position. Finals for both events will take place on Tuesday, June 12.
The Mountaineers will return to competition on Friday, June 15, with the women shooting in the 50-meter rifle three-position and the men competing in the 10-meter air rifle. Finals for both those events will follow on June 16.
