WVU Tops Oklahoma


MORGANTOWN, W.Va.–West Virginia held on for its second Big 12 victory of the season, outlasting Oklahoma 79-71 Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.

It was redshirt freshman guard Brandon Knapper leading the way, hitting big shots in both the first half and the second. He wound up with a career-high 25 points.

Esa Ahmad added a double-double for the Mountaineers, finishing with 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Derek Culver had a double-double of his own with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

WVU improved to 10-12 overall with the win and is now 2-7 in the Big 12. Oklahoma fell to 15-7 overall and 3-6 in the league.

The Mountaineers won’t have much time to enjoy the victory. They are on the road for a game Monday night at Texas Tech (17-4/5-3). Tipoff time in Lubbock is 9 p.m. (Eastern).
