West Virginia outfielder Austin Davis will play in the Collegiate Summer Baseball Invitational beginning today, June 4 and running through Saturday, June 6.
The invitation-only event will feature four teams — Unity, Liberty, Freedom and independence — made up of some of the top collegiate players in the game. Davis will participate on the Unity team.
Thursday’s games will be shown for free on ESPN2, beginning at 7:00 PM ET. Friday’s and Saturday’s games are only available via pay-per-view at csbi2020.com
The CSBI is moving ahead with its event in the face of the cancellation of many collegiate baseball leagues. According to Baseball America, 14 of the 37 summer leagues have been cancelled, and many others are weighing that option along with a delayed start of July or later.
Davis was third on the team in batting average in the abbreviated 2020 season, hitting .322 with an OPS of .799. He had four doubles and 10 RBI, and stole six bases in seven attempts.
