WVU’s Long Hired By WVU Tech
WVU Tech’s gain is WVU’s loss.
James Long, who has served as the video coordinator for the Mountaineer men’s basketball program for the past three years, has been hired as the head men’s basketball coach at WVU Tech.
Golden Bear director of athletic of athletics Kenneth Howell announced Long’s hiring on Wednesday. Long replaces veteran Tech coach Bob Williams, who retired after 17 seasons. Williams led the Golden Bears to the NAIA Tournament in four of the last five seasons, which included a 30-5 mark this past year.
A native of Charleston, West Virginia, Long was a walk-on member of WVU’s basketball team from 2014-17, scoring 32 points and playing in 23 games during that time. After graduating with a degree in finance from WVU, he was hired by West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins to serve as the Mountaineers’ video coordinator.
Now after three years working for Huggins, Long is headed to Beckley to take over his own program.
