West Virginia has one representative on the preseason All-Big 12 Mens Basketball team. Taz Sherman, the Mountaineers’ 6-4 senior guard, was selected as an honorable mention member of the squad by vote of league coaches. Sherman joins James Akinjo (Baylor), Avery Anderson (Oklahoma State), Moussa Cisse (Oklahoma State), Mike Miles (TCU), Andrew Jones (Texas) and Tre Mitchell (Texas) in that group.
Six players, with an additional slot created by a tie in the voting, were preseason All-Big 12 picks: Matthew Mayer (Baylor), Ochai Agbaji (Kansas), Remy Martin (Kansas), David McCormack (Kansas), Marcus Carr (Texas) and Terrence Shannon, Jr. (Texas Tech). Martin is the league’s preseason player of the year, while Carr is the preseason newcomer of the year. Baylor’s Kendall Brown is the freshman of the year.
Sherman averaged 13.4 points in 24.4 minutes per game for the Mountaineers last year. He shot 41.3% from the field overall, but made almost 36% of his 3-pointers (47-131).
The Big 12 Preseason Poll will be announced on Thursday.
